5 Weekend Trips Within Driving Distance of Charlotte

When our family moved to Charlotte, we were excited about the prospect of weekend trips to mountains and beaches.  There are so many getaways within driving distance from Charlotte.  We have rounded up some of our 5 favorite weekend trips within driving distance of Charlotte:

Asheville North Carolina

Driving Distance: 2 hours

Attractions: Biltmore, Grove Park Inn, Navitat Canopy Adventures, Historic Walking Tours

In Asheville there’s always a new place to explore. Asheville makes it easy to plan your visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Biltmore Estate is the largest private residence in the US and offers tours for the entire family. During the holiday season, the house lights up with hundreds of trees for tours.  Stay at one of the historic sites, or book a hotel throughout the city.  There are also many adventure companies for those who enjoy outdoors, and breweries for the whole family to enjoy.

Pigeon Forge

Driving Distance: 4 Hours

Attractions: Dollywood, Titanic Museum, Wonderworks, Jeep Tours

At Pigeon Forge, there is so much to do it would be tough to fit into one weekend!  For many generations, visitors have returned to explore this small mountain town in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. As a year-round family-friendly vacation destination, Pigeon Forge is filled with fun activities. There are many thrilling attractions as well as award-winning shows.  Take advantage of countless options for dining, shopping and lodging as well.

Wilmington, NC

Driving Distance: 3.5 Hours

Attractions: Battleship NC, Sunset Cruise, Jungle Rapids Park, Ghost Walks

Wilmington is the Southern destination with something for the entire family to enjoy. The city as a robust National Register Historic District, which spans 230-plus blocks of churches, classic architecture, brick-lined streets, and historic homes. There is always live music, performing arts, and museum exhibitions as well. Wilmington partakes in a large spring celebration in April during the world-famous North Carolina Azalea Festival.

Blowing Rock

Driving Distance: 1 hour 45 Minutes

Attractions: Tweetsie Railroad, Ghost Tours, Mystery Hill Museum, Horseback Riding

Blowing Rock is located in western North Carolina located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s named after The Blowing Rock, a formation with sweeping peaks, forests and the Johns River Gorge. Rent a cabin in the woods, or stay at one of the many hotel properties throughout town. Shops and breweries are scattered all throughout town for an afternoon of family fun.  There is something for everyone in Blowing Rock and nature will be the highlight of your weekend trip with many outdoor activities throughout the city.

Atlanta, Ga

Driving Distance: 4.5 Hours

Attractions: Harry Potter Exhibition, Work of Coca Cola, Braves Baseball, City Tours

Whether you have a few hours or days, you need the must-see, must-do list of the coolest places and super fun things to do in Atlanta to get you started. Family-friendly things to do, historic sites and scenic outdoor green spaces are just the beginning. There’s trendsetting culture and mouth-watering dining to keep you wanting more.
