Turning Inspiration into Reality
When we built our home we only had options for a standard builder-grade walk-in pantry wire shelves. Over time, we noticed they always seemed to sag in all the wrong places. Since moving in 5 years ago, I have always wanted a more aesthetically pleasing and functional pantry. One Saturday I woke up and ripped out my entire pantry with no plan – I just knew I could create something better than what was there!
Draw Out Your Plans
I started out by drawing out my plans based on dimensions of my space. I knew I wanted two lower cabinets and a main shelf area, and 3 shelves above the main shelf to be able to organize all my items. I also wanted to switch out the builder grade light for a modern light. I took a trip to Lowe’s, gathered all my supplies, and got to work.
The Details of the Project
The shelves were custom made by using 2×2 pieces of wood and wood veneer to finished everything off. The cabinets were standard upper kitchen cabinets, and I created a base out of 2x4s and added my own hardware. I also added a backsplash (which was surprisingly easy) and switched out the light with a fixture from Amazon. Overall, the project took a few hours each night for about a week and the finished product is something I am very proud of! You don’t have to be extremely handy to pull of something like this. You really just need a way to cut wood and some patience to get the pantry of your dreams!
