Realistic Cleaning Schedule for Busy Moms

If you’re a mom, chances are you’re busy.

Whether you work from home, stay at home, work in an office, or own your own business – you’ve got a lot on your plate. As a working mom of two I know firsthand how easy it can be to let your house slip into an untidy abyss, especially when you already have so many things to do. After working, running errands, practicing self-care, and tackling an endless to-do list, cleaning is the last thing I want to do. But, in what seems like an instant, your home can become a disorganized mess and that can often lead to frustration and anxiety.

So what can you do?

Make a cleaning schedule. Having a schedule has helped me to tackle the mess in my home and keep it clean. One of the most important things to do is to make sure that your cleaning schedule works for you! Make sure your cleaning schedule

  • Prioritizes the important areas of your home

  • Doesn’t overwhelm you

  • Fits your schedule

Your cleaning schedule must also be realistic. Are you really going to clean all the bathrooms, the kitchen and wash and fold four loads of laundry every Monday? Probably not. Check out these tips that will help you develop a cleaning routine so you can get back to enjoying your home.

  1. Make a list

Step one is to take some time to make a list of all the things that need to be done around the house i.e. vacuuming, dusting, laundry etc. Then you will decide how often each task needs to be completed. For example, I vacuum every day because I have a dog, but the guest bathroom only gets cleaned once per week.

  1. Keep it real

Once you know what needs to be done, determine how much time you can devote to cleaning. Don’t make this a long amount of time because you don’t want it to become too much of a chore. If you only have 20 minutes that’s fine! Prioritize and focus on the tasks that can be completed in that time frame.

  1. Don’t do it alone!

Get the whole family involved. Delegate tasks based on age and ability; even young children can get involved with tasks like cleaning up their toys.

  1. Give yourself grace

If you find yourself falling behind, don’t beat yourself up about it! Life happens and there’s always tomorrow. Just do your best and try not to stress!
